Yes I baked! Now anyone reading this who knows me on any personal level knows that I cannot bake. I have tried for years and I am almost never successful. In the past my baked-goods have been used as weapons and hockey pucks. Think I’m joking?!
My friends and family have tried to be supportive…
…but it never comes out quite right.
I am a great cook, but I simply do not have the patience for the preciseness of baking. I like to rush.
So when I put this on my to-do-list, I knew it wasn’t going to be pretty.
Last night was the perfect opportunity to try something new. I was having a group of guys over to watch the hockey game and guys will eat anything, even if it’s not pretty.
I selected something that required minimal baking: Cake pops! My aunt has made these on several occasions and they are always adorable and delicious!
I mean come on! How incredible right?!
*********
Step One: Bake a cake.
I used a basic white cake from a mix. Success!
Step Two: Once it cools crumble up the cake.
Step Three: Mix with 1 jar of frosting and roll mixture into balls.
*Now at this point I really thought I had it! The baking was done, the balls were holding together, but the next step was 10 times harder than it looked.
Step Four: Cover balls in melted candy coating
Simple right? WRONG! The melts were hot, so when I went to cover the pops they started to fall apart. So I collected myself and fought back the intense desire to throw them off the balcony, and I decided to pop them in the freezer and try again.
Now as I said, I knew they were not going to be pretty……
VICTORY! Black and yellow (Bruin’s themed) cake pops! And they were delicious
I probably ended up getting more coating on myself than on the pops but at that point I really didn’t care. Everyone ate them, and the Bruin’s won so it was a great night! Do I see myself baking anytime in the near future? Hell No.
What is one thing that you struggle to do correctly?

Just found your blog, love it! I laughed out loud when I saw the brownie picture
I have always wanted to make cake pops (had them at a wedding a year ago and couldn’t get enough of them, and they are my fiance’s favorite dessert) but I had a feeling they were really difficult to make! You make them sound easier, but I think they may still be out of my baking capabilities!
Thank you so much
They are very simple to make, its the decorating that killed me! I didn’t use a double boiler to melt the candy, which may have been my problem. I say give them a try! From a fellow non baker- they taste so good its worth it.
