The Highlight Reel

Happy FRIDAY!! I am so pumped for this weekend for many reasons, but I will get to that later :-) The last 24 hrs were busy and I was nowhere near a computer so I will give a quick 24hr highlight reel:

Thursday:

  • Finally made it to the gym this week! My workout looked a little something like this:

The seated row machine that I use looks something like this:

When I say “free weights” I mean I grab some 10 lb bells (I have weak arms) and do whatever I feel like doing at the time. Sometimes I do lunges, weighted squats, or lateral shoulder raises.

I also like to alternate between cardio and weights when I exercise. This is a great weight loss trick because you can burn up to 30% more calories when you combine the two types of exercise and it’s perfect for someone like me who has exercise A.D.D . I am CERTAINLY no expert but I have read so many articles that discuss this.  Here is one example: (click on the picture for the full article)

  • I made a stop at Trader Joe’s on the way home for some essentials and some fun buys!

I even picked up some Kid Z Bars due to Angela’s constant positive reviews! I also managed to find the Chocolate Caramel Sea Salt bars that Chelcie talked about last week! SCORE! I am especially excited about these as well:

This week it has been especially hot and it is certainly become Popsicle season!

  • On a sad note: Last night I had my last volleyball session of the season.

I  had such an amazing time and I cannot wait for the fall session to start in September. For those of you who don’t know, I joined a local volleyball session that met 2 hrs a week for 8 weeks to scrimmage and basically just get some exercise!

I played v-ball in high school and I hadn’t realized how much I missed it until I started playing again. Nolan actually came with me tonight because we knew we would be short a few people. He had a lot of fun, and made a few great plays! Now I need to find something else to do this summer that is competitive and burns some calories!

Friday:

I did a pretty good job balancing my meals again

Special K Fruit and Yogurt cereal with skim milk and raspberries

Leftover green beans from Sunday’s dinner, fresh watermelon, and leftover pasta-chicken parm burger meal from Wednesday.

A turkey sandwich on an Arnold sandwich thin with tomato, avocado  and American cheese.

  • I FINALLY got to meet up with my long lost running partner today!!! Spring baseball season is coming to an end so I will hopefully be able to go on many more family runs in the near future!

Tonight I plan on sitting around, catching up on some blogs, sending out some job applications, and going to bed very early. This week kicked my you-know-what! I swear every 6 weeks like clockwork I feel the sore throat set in from talking all week long, and my body just feels heavy and exhausted. Yet another excited Friday night in the life of Katy!

Question:

What exercise do you prefer: cardio or weights?

Do you prefer to run alone or with a partner?

What is your idea of a perfect Friday night?

Scrub the Toilet or Exercise?

I’m just gunna come right out and say it. I tend to be very lazy. Running gets very old, very fast, even with a great playlist, and situps are literally the worst thing I can possibly think of doing. I think I’d rather scrub the toilet then do 50 situps. Pathetic, I know, but true.

So when I found a new activity I could do that required little running, and some competitive spirit, I jumped on it!

Tonight is my first night playing an organized sport in…. 8 years! One of my friends and I joined a volleyball course at the local technical high school. It meets once a week for 2 hrs and apparently you just show up and scrimmage! In high school I played volleyball and I had a blast. It was a great workout  and I cannot wait to play again! The first day was actually last week but I was a little busy and couldn’t go.  I definitely plan on being a little sore tomorrow with bright red arms (if you have ever played vball before you understand).

Since I will be busy most of the night, Nolan and I have already thrown together a new recipe for dinner, so stay tuned!
